Help Wanted From Gardeners

UMaine Cooperative Extension is asking for help from Maine gardeners and farmers. According to a recent news flash from the Piscataquis County Office, Garlic Rust (caused by Puccinia alli) has been identified in Maine. Please examine the photo and observe the symptoms of this fungal pathogen. Garlic rust infects a number of different species within the onion family including chives, garlic, Japanese Bunching Onion, leek, onion, and shallot. If you think you may have this in your garden or have any questions, please contact Steve Johnson (764-3361) stevenj@maine.edu. Thanks and happy gardening!
